Baden-Württemberg. The capital of this state is Stuttgart. Baden-Württemberg shares both Lake Constance (Bodensee) and the foothills of the Alps with Switzerland. a popular holiday destination rivalled only by Bavaria in its natural landscapes. You can also enjoy wonderful SPAs in Baden-Baden and visit the famous Black forest region.

Bavaria`s most famous city is it`s capital Munich. Bavarians commonly emphasize pride in their traditions and their mentality might be very different from the other Germans. The regions is very famous for food, beers and wines.

Berlin is the capital city and one of sixteen states of Germany. Berlin has one of the most diverse and vibrant nightlife scenes in Europe, a lot of historical buildings and amazing cultural life. The Brandenburg Gate is an iconic landmark of Berlin and Germany. The other noticeable sights is the Fernsehturm (TV tower) at Alexanderplatz in Mitte that is the second-tallest structure in the European Union at 368 meters.

Brandenburg surrounds but does not include the national capital Berlin. The capital of this region is Potsdam. There is no end to outstanding places of interest and attractive destinations in Brandenburg. Many historical monuments, landscapes and museums offer a fascinating insight into the region's history.

Bremen is a name of the city and the state's name as well. It is an old Hanseatic town, one of the main north German cities. Despite the vast damage from the war the town still retains a nice big harbor atmosphere and has a few sights worth visiting, not the least of which is Bremen's beautiful Rathaus.

Hamburg. Hamburg is a major transportation spot in northern Germany and became a media and industrial center. The “must see” places include a tour to the city hall and the grand church St. Michaelis (called the Michel), and visiting the old warehouse district (Speicherstadt) and the harbor promenade (Landungsbrücken).

Hesse is situated in the central Germany and it` capital is Wiesbaden. The most famous city is Frankfurt am Main that has wonderful cathedrals and other architectural sights. The other significant place of interest is Hessenpark, where you can take a look a the life of Germans many years ago.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The capital is Schwerin. The coastline of the Baltic Sea, including islands such as Rügen and Usedom, as well as the Mecklenburg Lake District are famous for many holiday resorts and nature, making Mecklenburg-Vorpommern one of Germany's leading tourist destinations. The old towns of Wismar and Stralsund are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and offer for tourists late Gothic red brick architecture.

Lower Saxony. The capital city Hannover is a very nice city with many historical monument in both the New Town (Neustadt) and the Old Town (Altstadt). One of the most famous trade fair cities on the planet, Hanover's Expos are legendary and attract literally millions of visitors.

North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf – the capital - is one of the nicest towns in Germany. It is a gorgeous and elegant, modern city on the banks of the Rhine River. Besides cultural heritage in such cities as Bonn and Cologne, the region is also known as one of the most industrially developed German states.

Rhineland-Palatinate is the largest wine producing state. The capital is Mainz that was founded by the Romans and their influence is still visible in many places around the town. The Palatinate Forest is the biggest coherent forest in middle Europe and hides more than 50 castles and ruins. Rhineland-Palatinate is a perfect place for outdoor activities, like hiking, biking, camping and etc.

Saarland it is the smallest of the German Flächenländer ("area states"). The capital of this little Bundesland is Saarbrücken that is very cozy city offering a lot of cultural life.

Saxony. Dresden is a capital and probably the most popular city in the region. Except for Dresden and perhaps Leipzig, Saxony is not known as a hot spot for foreign tourists. However some area near the border with Czech Republic are favorable with tourists.

Saxony-Anhalt is a very rural state with two biggest cities Magdeburg and Halle. The Elbauenpark in Magdeburg deserves a special mention. Here state-of-the-art garden architecture covers an area of 100 ha. Besides that the regions enjoys beautiful landscapes and historical architecture: castles, cathedrals, ruins and etc.

Schleswig-Holstein. This states borders with Denmark and for this reason combines Danish and German aspects of culture. The capital is Kiel. The old city of Lübeck is a world heritage site and is definitely worth to visit. The most important festivals are the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, an annual classic music festival all over the state, and the Nordische Filmtage, an annual film festival for movies from Scandinavian countries, held in Lübeck.

Thuringia`s the most outstanding geographical feature is the Thuringian Forest, a mountain chain in the southwest. The Werra River separates this mountain chain from the volcanic Rhön Mountains, which are partially in Thuringia, Bavaria, and Hesse. The capital of this region is Erfurt town.
